MOUNT VERNON — All of the seven fire and/or Emergency Medical Service levies on the ballot in Knox County were approved by voters in Tuesday’s election.

Clinton Township

Both levies on the ballot in Clinton township to support fire and EMS services passed easily. Renewal of a 1.5-mill levy for 5 years was approved 678 to 375, while a 2.5-mill levy, also for fire and EMS, passed 607 to 442. The levies will raise a total of $219,900 ($82,500 from the 1.5-mill levy and $137,400 from the 2.5-mill levy) and will be used to pay the township’s contract with Mount Vernon Fire Department for fire and EMS services.

College Township

College Township voters overwhelmingly approved an additional 1-mill, 5-year levy for fire and EMS services. Trustees said the levy would bolster district finances, mostly for training and equipment.

The levy will bring in about $35,050 per year for the district.

Fredericktown EMS

Voters in the Fredericktown EMS District, which is contiguous with the fire district, approved the renewal of the 0.6-mill, 5-year levy for ambulance service by a decisive 2,157 to 795, or 73.07 percent to 26.93 percent. The levy raises about $103,000 per year.

Fredericktown Fire

Voters in the Community Fire District approved renewal of a 1-mill, 5-year levy for fire services by a vote of 2,097 to 867, a margin of 70.75 percent to 29.28 percent. The levy produces about $172,100 per year.

Monroe Township

Voters in Monroe Township voted to renew a 2-mill, 5-year levy for fire protection by a vote of 664 to 275. The levy raises $108,800 per year.

In Tuesday’s issue of the News, Monroe Township was reported to have two levies up for renewal. That was incorrect. Monroe had one levy for 2 mills for fire and EMS services on the ballot. The figures cited were for Clinton Township. The News regrets the error.

Morgan Township

Voters in Morgan Township easily approved renewal of a 0.8-mill, 3-year levy for ambulance and emergency medical service provided by Utica Fire Department. The vote was 367 to 168, or 77.26 to 22.74 percent.

The levy raises $16,900 per year.

All results are unofficial until certified.
