Joshua Morrison/News The first voters in today’s general election were lining up before 6:30 a.m., at the Station Break, 160 Howard Street, Mount Vernon. Poll workers nimbly checked voters identifications and kept the line moving. Polls remain open today until 7:30 p.m.

Of 42,292 registered voters, 22,430 ballots were cast with a voter turnout of 53% as Mount Vernon Proposed City Charter proposal was rejected by voters. State Issue 1 was soundly rejected.
