MOUNT VERNON — Harriett Ann (Hawk) Edmister, 81, went home to walk the streets of Heaven with Jesus, Oct. 25, 2018. She was born June 28, 1937, to the late Charles and Helen Hawk. She attended school at Centerburg High School in Centerburg and was a member of Central Christian Church.

On Sept. 23, 1956, after only three months of courting, she married the love of her life, Henry, and they became a great example with their 58 1/2 years of marriage. Harriett lived her life as a servant of God and played an important part in leading her husband to the Lord.

Harriett served as a lunchroom monitor when her children were in grade school and worked as WIC Coordinator for the Knox County Health Department for 20 years, retiring in March of 2000.

For many years, she served as a teacher for both Sunday School and Bible School and was president of the Central Ladies Group. If there was a chore that needed done, she was on it! She was a past 4-H Advisor and Brownie/Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed sewing, fishing and genuinely loved being a helping hand where needed. She especially loved singing with the “2 X 2” Gospel Quartet for 25 years.

Harriett is survived by her children, Chuck Edmister, Denise (Jim) Hess, Carol (Keith) Hess, all of Mount Vernon, and David (Diane) Edmister of Lewis Center; and close friend, Pam Seavolt; two brothers, Kenneth (Pam) Hawk of Lewis Center and Robert (Vivian) Hawk of Mount Vernon; 13 grandchildren, Skye (Hannah) Edmister, Tricia (Matt) Evans, Jason (Renee) Edmister, Charlie (Brandy) Edmister, Renee (Jereme) Brown, Jeremy (Chelsea) Hess, Brian (Jennifer) Hess, Travis (Carrie) Hess, Brandon Edmister, Zachary Edmister, Danielle Edmister, Eric Gutierrez and Alex Gutierrez; three step-grandchildren, Tiffany (Travis) Whitley, Samantha (Jake) Erb and Jacob McQueen; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Harriett was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; a brother, Charles Hawk; four sisters, Lucille Wessa, Eileen Lease, Eloise Butcher and Doris Smith; and granddaughter, Niki Gutierrez.

Friends may call Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018, from 2-4 p.m., at Lasater Funeral Home, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road in Mount Vernon and one hour prior to funeral services. Funeral service will be held Monday at the funeral home beginning at 1 p.m., with Mr. Don Linn officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice.
