MOUNT VERNON — Robin Hren, Aug. 27, 1940 – Oct. 24, 2017, was a beloved teacher at MVHS for many years. She went above and beyond to help her students grow into mature, thoughtful adults. Her passion for teaching led her to explore the world so she could bring new information to enrich young people’s lives. She expanded on her Social Studies platform to include new courses that would develop students’ awareness of changing global conditions — and of their own emotional internal landscapes.

Robin’s gifts didn’t end at the classroom door. She and her husband Bob took many kids under their wings and nurtured them through hard times. She was always available outside school hours to listen, offer guidance, and help wherever she could. Her kindness and generosity were boundless. She will be missed by many former students. She changed countless young lives forever, sending the gift of her love outward to multiply many times over.

She is survived by Bob, her husband of 57 years; two children, Jeff Hren (Wendy) and Jeni Gaffney (Sean); five grandchildren, Christine Horrell (Timothy), Taylor Hren (Chloe), Wesley Hren (Lydia), Casey Hren and Colin Gaffney; two great-grandchildren, Timothy and Asher Horrell.

Her family will always love her for her enthusiasm to live life to the fullest, her openness and generosity to others and her vision for the great adventures that we all experience along the way.

Robin’s ashes were spread into the ocean that she cherished near Wilmington, NC.

Memorials may be made to the Mount Vernon Public Library.
