MOUNT VERNON — And then there were three.

The Knox County Republican Party Executive Committee has whittled down a list of eight interested candidates for the open Knox County Probate/Juvenile Court judgeship to just three who will be recommended to Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

Making the short list, in alphabetical order, are Noel Alden, Mary Ellen Fulk and Jay Nixon.

Those who qualified for the position are Knox County residents who have practiced law uninterrupted for at least six years. The candidates presented their pitch for the seat to the executive committee Wednesday.

Those also asking to be considered included Ana Aebi, Derk Demaree, John Dilts, Larry Grindle and Christina Reiheld.

Two visiting judges have been managing the probate and juvenile court docket since April 2.

Kasich has the option of selecting from the committee’s suggestions or making a choice on his own.

The judgeship became available after it was vacated by Jennifer Springer Oct. 1. The next probate/juvenile court judge will finish the remainder of Springer’s term through February 2021. The annual salary for the position is $140,550.
