MOUNT VERNON — E. Jane Metzger, 29 and holding, passed away Sept. 27, 2018, at her home surrounded by her three daughters. She was born July 23 in New Albany to Estel and Golda Heskett.

Jane was well known for her flower gardens, as she had won several awards for them. Garden clubs came from everywhere to tour and picnic in her gardens. People would stop in the middle of the road to admire her flowers. Jane was self-taught and would work from sunrise to sunset to make her beds more spectacular than the year before.

Jane is survived by her daughters, Joyce Thompson, Kathy (Samuel) Lewis and Brenda S. Metzger; grandchildren, April Hall, Kelly Lewis, Ray Metzger Jr., Jennifer McKnight, William Thompson, David Metzger and four-legged Tilly Rose; great-grandchildren, Lydia Thompson, Makenna Coe, Ryan Fields and the love of grandma’s life, Kale Coe.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Raymond J. Metzger; son, Dale Metzger; grandson, Nathan Lewis; great-grandson, Zachary Metzger; brothers, Loren Heskett and Eugene (Buck) Heskett.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Knox County.

There will be no calling hours and the funeral service will be private.
