MOUNT VERNON — Rev. William Youngman of Mount Vernon passed on to his heavenly reward in his home Saturday evening, Sept. 15, 2018, surrounded by his loving family, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Hutchinson, Kansas, May 27, 1933, to John William and Mildred Grace (Eade) Youngman.
Rev. Youngman was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Youngman; and a sister, Nina (Youngman) Montemayor. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vicky (Mattox) Youngman; daughter, Vicky Ann Youngman Schlosberg (Richard); son, William Kent Youngman (Doreen); and a daughter, Cynthia Jane Noble (Kevin); seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two nieces.
Rev. Youngman was an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene, having done pastoral ministry in Nazarene churches in Kansas, Massachusetts, and Ohio before teaching in the Religion/Philosophy Department at MVNC/MVNU for twenty-three years. He also did short term teaching to students in Christian Ministry in Armenia and Jamaica. All of this was after receiving degrees from Friends University, Nazarene Theological Seminary, Lutheran Evangelical Seminary and Boston University. Pastoring and teaching were his God-given passions which he loved.
Rev. Youngman has been a member of the Lakeholm Church of the Nazarene since 1981 and has served on the church board, SDMI board, small group leader and Sunday school teacher as well as the Ministerial Studies board on the North Central Ohio District of the Church of the Nazarene.
Rev. Youngman was a loving husband, father and grandfather, taking pride in his family’s accomplishments and being know by them as having a great deal of wisdom which he shared with them. He also shared with them his love for photography and fishing.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, at the Lakeholm Church of the Nazarene, 16001 Glen Road, Mount Vernon, and also Friday, Sept. 21, from 10 a.m. until the time of the celebration of life service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Scott Sharpes and Dr. Charles McCall officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
