MOUNT VERNON — Starting Monday, single copy sales of the Mount Vernon News will increase from 50 cents to 75 cents, according to News Circulation Manager Michelle Hartman.

The increase is the first raise in cost for copies of the News sold in boxes and retail establishments throughout Knox County since 1990, when it was bumped from 35 cents to 50 cents.

There will be no change in the cost of subscriptions at this time, Hartman said.

The decision to raise single copy sale prices was sparked by an increase in raw materials including paper, ink and plates used in producing the daily paper.

Starting Monday, paper boxes will only accept quarters.

Anyone interested in a subscription for home delivery of the News can call circulation at 740-397-5333, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
