MOUNT VERNON — Four northern Ohio residents are in custody as suspects in several burglaries in Butler Township.

Knox County Sheriff David Shaffer reported Tuesday that Cody S. Brengartner, 24, Marblehead; Taylor M. Gobmeier, 19, Marblehead; Joan M. Heintz, 18, Port Clinton; and David D. Lagasse, 22, Oak Harbor, have been arrested on charges of receiving stolen property. Brengartner has further been charged with possession of drugs, according to Shaffer.

The four were arrested Monday as deputies Ryan Burgess and Zac Miller were taking reports of burglaries in the area of New Castle and Billman roads, Knox County Prosecuting Attorney Chip McConville said. McConville said the deputies had a report of a suspect vehicle connected to a previous burglary, and observed the vehicle as they were investigating the reports.
The vehicle was stopped and searched after a K-9 unit indicated drugs were inside, McConville said. Deputies found several firearms in the vehicle, McConville said, and suspected meth was also found.

The suspects are being held without bond.

McConville said he is reviewing incident reports, and does not yet have all the dates of burglaries that may be connected. At least one of the reported burglaries occurred Aug. 2, McConville said.

The investigation is ongoing, Shaffer said.

Shaffer said the reported burglaries appeared to target Amish homes, and there may be additional victims. Anyone with information should contact the sheriff’s office at 740-397-3333 ext. 1.
