MOUNT VERNON — Patrons of the Mount Vernon Farmers’ Market will still be able to get SNAP benefits, Produce Perks and Senior vouchers through the end of the market season.

The company which operates the system the market uses to access those benefits announced earlier this summer it was discontinuing that operation and it had looked like the market might not be able to accept SNAP (formerly Food Stamps) and the other programs after this Saturday, but Extension Educator Sabrina Schirtzinger reported that a group in New York has stepped in to keep the system in operation until February.

After that date the situation is still unclear, but, Schirtzinger said, they are looking at some possibilities for funding so those benefits can continue next year.
