MOUNT VERNON — Off and on downpours Wednesday took a toll on local sporting events.

The Mount Vernon girls tennis team was slated to host Olentangy Liberty at 4 p.m. for the second round of the Ohio Tennis Coaches’ Association State Team Championship. After each match got underway for two to three games, rains halted the action. Despite a slight break in the rain, another downpour stopped action for the day. A day to pick up where the matches left off has not been set yet.

Girls golf was also not immune to the elements. Fredericktown, Elgin, Highland and Watkins Memorial were all playing in a match hosted by Centerburg. After finishing a hole or two, weather caused the event to be canceled, with the possibility of additional action later in the season.
