UTICA — The village added a police officer and lost a council member at the Village Council meeting Monday.

The meeting opened with the swearing-in of Robert German as the newest auxiliary police officer. Then, after the legislative agenda was completed, Mayor Lester Grennell read a letter from Council Member James Runyan, who is resigning from council because he has purchased a house outside of Utica.

Grennell said the opening will be advertised and letters from people interested in the proposition will be accepted until Sept. 21. Council will then have 30 days to appoint a replacement. If it does not, the mayor can fill the position.
