UTICA — The North Fork Board of Education voted Monday night to release bus driver Tammi Smith.

The Ohio Department of Education suspended Smith’s certificate effective Nov. 15, 2017, following an OVI arrest. The Licking County Municipal Court found Smith guilty in the case July 26.

According to reports, Smith was arrested July 10, 2017, with a blood alcohol level more than three times the legal limit. However, a paperwork error through the arresting officer, Utica Police Chief Cameron Dailey, to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles kept Smith on the road.

The paperwork error prevented the arrest from being reported to the BMV, which prevented the district from being notified, according to reports. The board placed Smith on unpaid leave until the court case was resolved.
