MOUNT VERNON — Bidders put $6,500 into the coffers for the 2019 Dan Emmett Music & Arts Festival Saturday night at the 2018 bell auction.

The top price for a bell was $1,500 by a group of bidders, who give the bell to the Community Service Award recipient. The 2018 award recipient was Mount Vernon Safety-Service Director Joel Daniels.

Daniels was honored for his involvement in local and national groups. In presenting the award, Dan Emmett Festival Chair Pat Crow noted that Daniel’s service to the community includes sitting as past chair of the Knox County Chamber of Commerce, as well as a member of Rotary and United Way. His involvement with Boy Scouts of America at the national level includes being named a James West Fellow and attainment of the highest volunteer award in scouting, the Silver Beaver Award.
