MOUNT VERNON — An under-appreciated, but integral part of Football Friday nights is the high school marching band. From the pre-game show to the half-time show, with crowd raising tunes in between plays, the bands lay the foundation of the night’s festivities, and it all starts with band camp.

The local high schools in Knox County, Centerburg, East Knox, Danville, Fredericktown and Mount Vernon, have spent the first part of this month at their respective band camps, setting the groundwork for their shows.

Brand new MVHS band director, former assistant band director Megan Aubihl, has some goals in mind going into her first season as head of the marching band program.
