Scruffy is one of 20 dogs competiting for a spot in the 2019 Friends of the Knox County Animal Shelter calendar. Visitors to the Dan Emmett Music & Arts Festival can vote on the dog of their choice by donation.

MOUNT VERNON — It’s legal to buy this election.

As in the past, the Friends of the Knox County Animal Shelter will have a booth set up at the Dan Emmett Music & Arts Festival where guests can vote for the shelter dogs which will be included in the 2019 calendar.

The booth will be located in front of Herald’s Appliances on Thursday and Friday, said Friends President Phil Samuell. The pictures of 20 dogs will be on display and guests vote by placing a donation in that dog’s jar. All but one of the dogs have been successfully adopted.

The top 12 dogs will be used in the new calendar.

Money from the election will be used to support the efforts of the shelter. In the past, the money has, for example, been used to help purchase a new autoclave and to obtain treatment for a dog’ severe ear infection.
