GAMBIER — As it was a hot topic for July’s monthly Village of Gambier council meeting, Monday night’s meeting was predominantly made up of discussions — both from villagers and council members — about the proposed new tree ordinance for the village.

Council held a first reading of the proposed ordinance, which is “regarding tree removal and amendment of the Village Zoning Code as it relates to tree removal.”

Council first allowed villagers to voice their opinions and/or recommendations for the ordinance, of which several villagers were in attendance to do so. Mayor Kachen Kimmell reminded the audience that “this is not its final form” because it is just a first reading of the drafted ordinance.
