MOUNT VERNON — Work is expected to start today on the Parrott Street/South Main Street intersection project. The road is expected to reopen around Nov. 16, but final project completion is expected to be in the spring of 2019.

According to City Engineer Brian Ball, “The project will lower the road surface and widen South Main Street to provide left turn lanes onto Parrott Street. The radii of the Parrott/Main intersection will be improved to better facilitate truck traffic.

“We will remove the existing traffic signal and install new mast arms with improved detection for vehicles and train traffic,” Ball said.
As part of the project, water, gas, phone and electrical lines have to be moved.
