MOUNT VERNON — It’s rare that Mount Vernon Fire Department has to transport an infant.

When they do, the baby needs to be as secure on the ambulance cot as they are in a car seat.

The department now has the most up-to-date equipment for transporting children, thanks to a $597.98 grant from the Baldwin Shrine Club. The grant was used to purchase Neomate and Pedimate Plus restraint systems, specifically designed for infants and children weighing up to 100 pounds.
