MOUNT VERNON – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) recently announced the NAIA Scholar-Teams for 2017-2018, and MVNU Athletics had each and every one of its programs exceed a 3.0 team grade-point average.

For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0-grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade point average includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.

By counting both indoor and outdoor track & field as two separate teams, MVNU had all 17 of its programs meet the standard.

“Without a doubt, this (collective) academic accomplishment ranks as one of the top achievements by members of the MVNU Community,” expressed Director of Athletics Aaron Quinn.

“Having every program reach NAIA Scholar-Team status speaks to the dedication and hard work of our student-athletes, coaching staffs and faculty members. Classroom is the second, core value of the Athletic Department; I cannot think of a finer example than to have all of our teams earn this distinction.”

It is a remarkable achievement for #MVNUnited, and a huge honor to represent 17 of the 1,862 teams from across the nation to claim the designation. MVNU Volleyball topped the charts for the Cougars by accumulating a team GPA of 3.75, and MVNU Women’s Tennis was not too far behind at 3.68.
