MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon 11-and-Under All-Stars have a long road trip ahead of them when the team heads for Ironton this weekend to compete against the 11 best teams in Ohio for the 11U State Tournament.

To earn a spot in the state tournament representing District 5, Mount Vernon had to beat Guernsey County in a best-of-three series. The All-Stars had a strong showing, winning the first two games by a combined score of 29-5.

“It was a confidence builder for sure,” coach Corey Firebaugh said. “They have never really played as a new team and for them to have success right away, that’s very important.”
