NEWARK — John David Vernon, 34, of Newark and formerly of Bradenton, Florida, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 21, 2018. He was born Sept. 2, 1983, in Sarasota, Florida.

John was a senior software developer and was currently working for Improving Columbus. John loved the outdoors and everything that nature offered. He especially enjoyed fishing, whether it was on the banks of a pond or river or on a boat, deep sea fishing. John took flying lessons and was dive certified. He also enjoyed camping and hiking. In his earlier years, he was a member of Boy Scout Troop #324 in Madeira Beach, Florida.

John is survived by his son, Maximus David Vernon; his mother, Wendy (Ulin) Hamilton of New Baltimore, Michigan; his father, John N. Vernon of Stevensville, Maryland; a brother, Matthew James Hamilton III of Sarasota, Florida; maternal grandmother, Donna Lee Ulin of Bradenton, Florida; paternal grandmother, Martha Vernon of Mount Vernon; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

John was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Harold Robert Ulin, and paternal grandfather, John Bryan Vernon.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, July 26, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050 where friends may call from 6 p.m. until the time of service. Pastor Roger Tickle will be officiating.

Memorial contributions in John’s name may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
