NORTH CANTON – The Mount Vernon 12-and-under All-Stars suffered a 6-4 defeat in the consolation bracket of the Ohio State Little League Tournament to Washington Courthouse, ending Mount Vernon’s run.

The All-Stars kicked off the game hot, with leadoff hitter Andrew Burke getting on base with a single and then he coming around to score in the top of the first to give his team a 1-0 lead. Washington Courthouse responded in a similar way, with its leadoff hitter scoring in the first to knot the game at 1 apiece.

Matthew Spearman led off Mount Vernon for the second inning and got on base via a walk and came around to touch home, pushing the edge to 2-1. That lead was shortlived, however, as Washington Courthouse plated three runs in the second to take a lead of its own, 4-2.
