MOUNT VERNON – The annual Dixie Days softball tournament in Mount Vernon kicked off Friday, despite the on-and-off rain showers, with pool play action. The tournament has 34 teams across four different divisions.

Friday was a day for pool play, where teams play each other before getting into the bracket, which is slated to kick off this morning.

In the 8-and-under division, Mount Vernon Mayhem picked up a 16-1 win over Madison to start the weekend strong. Wicked bested Ohio Scarlet & Gray 17-6, with the third game in the division coming in the form of an 18-6 win by the Wolfpack over the Clearfork All-Stars

Ohio Classics kicked off the action in the 10-and-under division with a 5-1 win over Wicked. The Mount Vernon All-Stars fell to Ohio Scarlet & Gray, 9-5, and Mount Vernon Mayhem suffered a 6-0 defeat at the hands of the Wolfpack. The Strasburg Tigers snagged an 8-0 win over the Muskie Chix. The Ohio Storm bested the Mid-Ohio Lady Bullets 12-2.

Legacy and North Licking All-Stars were the first bout in the 12-and-under division, with Legacy picking up the 7-2 win. The Ohio Starz squad bested Coyote Fastpitch 10-0, while the Ohio Storm and Strasburg Tigers played to a 5-5 draw. Mount Vernon Mayhem closed out the action Friday in a 17-2 loss against Valley Force.
