MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Sheriff’s Office will have its usual presence at the county fair, Sheriff David Shaffer said.

Deputies will be patrolling the fair in full uniform, keeping things safe and ready to offer assistance. Shaffer noted deputies are working security, but are also approachable in times of emergency.

“We get a lot of lost parent reports,” Shaffer said. “There are some thefts reported from the booths there selling things. The big thing is parking lot security.”

Shaffer said fair attendees can make their visit safe, as well as fun, by locking their vehicles and keeping an eye on their kids. Parents should take a photo of their children when they arrive at the fair, Shaffer said, to give an accurate description of the child should they get separated from their family.
