CAMBRIDGE — The Mount Vernon Orange 10-and-under All-stars battled tough and attempted a late rally, but could not pick up the win Wednesday against Guernsey County Pink, falling 13-8 and dropping out of the tournament.

As the away team, Mount Vernon got on the board early. Zayden Comer got on base via a single and Dammon Wolfe singled right after him and both came around to score, giving Orange a 2-0 lead before Pink could even take to the plate. Guernsey County was stifled in the first, with only four plate appearances and no runs.

Mount Vernon picked up the second inning where it left off in the first, with two runs. Brayden Vernon and Comer, who both reached base on a single, scored to put Orange ahead 4-0. It was Comer’s second run in as many innings.
