HOWARD — A new transportation policy will be implemented at East Knox Local School district this school year, following discussions brought up at the board of education meeting July 12.

The policy was introduced to the East Knox schools community via a Facebook post by the district, which was posted Tuesday. The post states the reason behind the new policy to be lack of drivers.

The policy states, “Due to ongoing driver shortages, bus students will only be picked up at one location each morning and dropped off at one location each afternoon starting this school year.”

Provisions have been made in the new policy for students to be picked up and dropped off at two different locations, with the example given of a student being picked up from home and dropped off at a babysitter’s house.
This policy differs from the previous policy, which transportation director, Angela Wells, detailed for the board at the July 12 meeting.

The previous policy allowed students to be picked up and dropped off at locations as detailed by parents before the start of the school year, Wells explained in the meeting. However, there were transportation request forms which could be submitted on a regular basis altering the pick-up or drop-off locations of students.
