Juvenile and Probate Judge Jennifer Springer

MOUNT VERNON — Juvenile and Probate Judge Jennifer Springer’s return to the bench will be determined by her progress with unspecified medical issues, according to a statement to the News.

In a July 13 statement, Springer writes that she has “not been in court due to some serious, but non-life threatening, medical issues.” Springer expresses a desire to return to work “soon” and that she is “working hard to get better.” When she will be able to return to work will be determined with input from her doctor, Springer writes.

Springer asks for “privacy and space to heal” for herself and her family.

The statement is the first Springer has made publicly about her leave of absence. Springer notified the Ohio Supreme Court in March that she would be taking medical leave effective April 1 through June 30. As of July 17, Springer has not returned to work.

The original request for leave to the Supreme Court, dated March 29, states “Judge is out for medical reasons-undetermined amount of time.”
