DANVILLE — The July meeting of the Danville local schools board of education Monday evening took the opportunity to introduce the new school resource officer to the school board and community.

Danville Village Police Department Lt. Mark Perkins introduced Rene Joris as the SRO for the 2018-2019 school year, following his swearing-in ceremony.

Joris attended the board meeting with his family members, fiancee, Brook Nelson; eight-year old daughter Nayomi; six-year old daughter Harper; 10-week old son Leo; and his mother, Ellen Kaiser.

“I’m mainly looking forward to working with the kids; making sure we have a safe environment for the kids,” Joris told the News. “Getting to know the parents, basically just keep everyone on the same page with what we need to move forward with. And obviously safety is going to be the biggest issue, protecting the faculty, staff and kids.”
