MOUNT VERNON — Douglas William Elswick, 70, of Mount Vernon, passed away at his home Thursday, July 12, 2018, with his loving family at his side.

He was born July 8, 1948, in Council, Virginia, to the late Elmer and Millie (Presley) Elswick. Douglas was employed and retired from Dana Corporation in Fredericktown after 44 years of service. He was a member of the Covenant Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and, most of all, working at the Food Pantry. Douglas was a veteran serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Hart) Elswick; three sons, Donnie (Kristi) Valentine, Michael (Melissa) Valentine, Brian (Elizabeth) Elswick; 11 grandchildren, Hanah Valentine, Lily Valentine, Codee Valentine, Drew Valentine, Brittany Valentine, Chase Valentine, Courtney Valentine, Marissa Valentine, Willa Elswick, Olia Elswick, Violet Elswick; his brother, Danny (Sharon) Elswick; and three sisters, Mildred Wolford, Ronda (Gerry) Flurry and Sherry (Stanley) Bartkowiak.

In addition to his parents, Douglas was preceded in death by his brother, Don Elswick.

Friends may call on Sunday, July 15, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Covenant Church. A service will follow beginning at 2 p.m. with Pastor Tim Overly officiating.
