JACKSON — The Ohio Department of Transportation continues its summer schedule of road improvements. The following are projects still in progress in Knox County:

Resurfacing on U.S. 36 and other various routes:

•Kokosing Construction is currently working in the Mount Vernon City limits on a few general items in preparation for paving activities. Paving activities should resume west of Ohio 229 on U.S. 36 at the end of this week and will continue for several months. ODOT estimates paving will start in the city in the beginning of August.

•Currently the plan is for one crew to work on pavement repairs on U.S. 36, from the SR 229 light to the west end of the project at the 10.14 mile marker. It is expected to take two weeks to complete these repairs. This crew will then move to Ohio 768 and Ohio 308 to complete pavement repairs on those routes.

•Following the repairs, a second crew will begin with normal paving operations beginning with the section of roadway from Ohio 229 to the west end of the project. This crew will then transition to work in the city limits from Ohio 229 to Public Square.

•There is a second ODOT micro-surfacing project that will take place this fall on U.S. 36 that will begin at the east corporation limit (approximately at mile marker 20.82) and continue to mile marker 29.50 which is near the US 36/US 62 intersection. This project will take approximately two weeks from start to finish.

•During resurfacing, one lane of traffic will be maintained with flaggers.

US 36 Bridge near Howard:

•Demolition work on the old bridge for the first phase is complete and crews are working to build the new substructure. Weather dependent, the contractor, Rietschlin Construction, should switch to the second phase towards the beginning of August. Traffic is currently being maintained with a temporary signal.

Ohio 514 Bridge near Greer:

•Crews are working on demolition of the old bridge structure. The contractor plans to begin falsework installation towards the end of the month once substructure work is completed. The road is completely closed with a detour. The detour is Ohio 520 to U.S. 62 to Ohio 514 and reverse.

The project is expected to be finished in October.
