MOUNT VERNON – The Mount Vernon 11-and-under All-Star Little League baseball team is ready to head to Buffalo this weekend to compete in the District 5 tournament, with a bid to the state tournament on the line.

Mount Vernon has only one team standing in its way of that spot in the state tournament, with Guernsey County as the only other 11-and-under team in the bracket, creating a best-of-three series.

“We try to approach it as just a couple more baseball games,” coach Corey Firebaugh said. “It’s going to be different than last year because I think there were 5-6 teams in the district. There is no added pressure there. Just play a couple baseball games and have fun.”
