MOUNT VERNON – The Mount Vernon 12-and-under All-Star baseball team picked up an 8-3 win over Guernsey County on Wednesday to secure a spot in the District 5 Little League Tournament championship game.

Guernsey County started off the game strong. Their first two batters made it on base and worked their way around to score, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead after the top of the first. Mount Vernon quickly responded with Zachary Butler getting on and rounding the bases to cut the lead to 2-1. Two other Mount Vernon runners were left stranded in the frame.

Similar to the first inning, Guernsey County got things going off the bat in the second inning, with the lead-off runner again plating a run to push the visitor’s advantage to 3-1.

After being blanked in the second inning, Mount Vernon came alive in the third. Reece Schuman reached base on a single and Camden Stitt drew a walk right after. Both Schuman and Stitt came around to score in the inning. Isaiah Campbell was the final run in the third, working his way around the bases after a double.
