MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Police Department is warning residents to stay clear of the Follin Avenue area — off Taylor Road on the city’s north side — as law enforcement is negotiating with a burglary suspect standing his ground in an apartment.

According to Capt. Scott McKnight, the suspect is believed to be connected with several burglaries that took place Wednesday night.

Members of the MVPD, Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Services Unit are on the scene.

Some residents of the area have been evacuated, although the News cannot confirm how many.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
