MOUNT VERNON — A Mount Vernon man charged with providing the drugs that led to a fatal overdose at the Knox County Jail is scheduled for a plea hearing Friday.

Dennis Banbury, 39, is scheduled to plead guilty to charges brought in the death of Warren Taylor, who died June 3, 2017, from an overdose after taking meth laced with fentanyl while incarcerated at the county jail. Banbury has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, corrupting another with drugs, illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a detention facility and two counts of aggravated possession of drugs.

Knox County Prosecuting Attorney Chip McConville declined comment on which charges Banbury has agreed to plead guilty to.

Taylor overdosed while he and Banbury were in a segregated unit of the county jail. The unit has two cells with a common area in between, McConville said, and is monitored via video cameras by jailers.
