MOUNT VERNON — After 41 years serving the Mount Vernon community, Dr. Rodney Beckett, dentist at Contemporary Dental Care, has officially retired from service.
Beckett’s exceptional dental career was highlighted by fellow practitioner Dr. Chris Martin in a retirement celebration held at the practice Tuesday afternoon.
Beckett’s dental career has spanned a total of 45 years. He attended Mount Vernon High School, Capital University and The Ohio State University School of Dentistry, before joining the United States Navy for four years for his post-doctoral fellowship.
“You rose to the rank of Navy captain in the dental corps., commanding the dental laboratory at Pearl Harbor naval base, before returning to your practice and hometown of Mount Vernon,” Martin said during the ceremony. “Helping thousands of patients in the community over the last 40 years, your career in this very challenging profession has been nothing short of remarkable and you are a credit to the practice of dentistry.”
Beckett returned to Mount Vernon following his four years in the Navy dental corps and joined Dr. George Deeley, whose practice Beckett took over following Deeley’s retirement. Beckett has been at the practice since 1977.
