MOUNT VERNON — John J. Duffey died July 3, 2018, at his home in Mount Vernon at the age of 67, after a long illness.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Nancy Powers; sons, David and Joey; sisters, Carole, Nancy Duffey Edwards (David), Karen Vaeth (Michael) and Mary (Tony Logan); brothers, Timothy (Colleen), Charles Kuhlman (Rebecca), Kevin (Natalie Wymer), and Michael (Lindsay); and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, siblings-in-law, stepbrothers and lifelong friends.

John’s parents, John and Suzanne Duffey, predeceased him.

Dedicated to public and community service over the course of his career, John, worked in leadership staff positions in the Ohio House of Representatives, Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, Northern Ireland Peace Initiative of the Presbyterian Church USA, and Ohio Department of Natural Resources and was director of Catholic Charities in Tallahassee, Florida.

All are welcome at a Mass of Christian Burial, Friday, July 6, at 3 p.m. at the Quarry Chapel in Gambier followed by burial and a reception at the Kokosing Nature Preserve. Family will also receive friends on Sunday, July 8, from 1-3 p.m. in the State Room at the Ohio Statehouse.

In lieu of flowers, John suggested donations to Casa Corazon, a school for children with HIV in San Pedro Sula, Honduras (c/o Sisters of Mercy CCASA Community, 8380 Colesville Rd Suite 300, Silver Spring, MD 20910).
