MOUNT VERNON — A little rain did nothing to damper the championship dreams of Modern Builders.

After a 45-minute rain delay at the start of the game, Modern Builders jumped out early and went on to beat Spearman Financial, 7-4, to win the Mount Vernon Baseball Association’s Major League tournament championship Tuesday night at Phillips Park.

Modern Builders took control of the game right from the start.

“The team really started to come together here towards the end of the season. We started out throwing Konner Daughreity, he’s a reliable, and great pitcher,” said Modern Builders coach Andrew Neighbarger. “We were hoping he would go all the way, but unfortunately that didn’t work out due to pitch count, so we brought in our second pitcher, Wes Neighbarger and it turned out for us.”
