11-17-1940 to 6-21-2018
MOUNT VERNON — Thursday, June 21, 2018, at 6 a.m., Jim O’Harra, surrounded by his loving wife and children, went home to be with the Lord. 6 a.m. was the time he woke up each morning, as he always had many things to do. Thursday was no different, and he was not going to be late. He was welcomed by his loving Savior.
Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sharen R. O’Harra; daughter, Tanya (Greg) Woods; sons, James (Brandi) O’Harra and Matthew O’Harra; his loving sister, Marlene Moe of Florida; brothers, Lawrence O’Harra of Columbus and Michael O’Harra of Lancaster; seven grandchildren, Daniel (Ciera) Woods, Nicholas (Kristin) Woods, Brennan (Christiana) Woods, Aidan O’Harra, Blake and Rilee Johnston, Brandon and Bailey Heiser; six great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins who all loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Maxwell.
Jim loved everyone, lived well and knew how to make all feel important. He was one of a kind and will never be forgotten. His legacy lives on through the lives of all he touched. He motivated others to be more kind, giving and accepting.
He dedicated his life to serving others. He was a sailor in the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Intrepid during the Cuban Crisis. After returning home, he became a volunteer fireman in Gahanna, the community where he raised his children. This lead to him becoming a Columbus fireman and later paramedic. He worked for the Columbus Division of Fire for 27 years. He joined the Lifeflight crew in 1982, as a flight medic and continued to work for Medflight, as a medic, until he retired at the age of 72.
Although he will be greatly missed by his family and friends, we are at peace knowing he is in the hands of our Savior, and look forward to seeing him again in Heaven.
