MOUNT VERNON — The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has told the city it will recommend to the federal EPA that it fund a large portion of the cost to fix the break in the dike between the Kokosing River and the west lake at Ariel-Foundation Park, which broke last November, City Engineer Brian Ball reported at the mayor’s weekly press briefing.

Ball said if the city is approved for the full $300,000 grant, it will file an application with the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District to pay half of the $200,000 city share of the project.

Another cistern

Another old fire cistern has been discovered, this one on East High Street at Catherine Street.
