AMITY — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash in the 16000 block of Wooster Road Friday afternoon that took the life of a 13-year-old Danville boy.

According to the patrol, Earnest E. Bennett, 59, Fredericktown, was traveling south on Ohio 3 in Pike Township, and failed to stop his camper with assured clear distance ahead, striking an Amish buggy.
Albert Miller, 35, Danville, was also traveling south in the buggy with his children, Andy, 13, and Leroy, 5.

The impact of the crash ejected all three passengers from the buggy, forcing the buggy off the right side of the road. Bennett’s camper came to a stop a short distance from impact, according to the patrol.

Andy was pronounced deceased at the scene, while Leroy was flown to Nationwide Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Mr. Miller suffered incapacitating injuries and was flown to Mt. Carmel for precaution.

According to a press release, the patrol has cited Bennett, although no details were provided regarding the charges.

Assistance was provided by Fredericktown Fire Department, College and Monroe Township Fire Department and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
