MOUNT VERNON — A Newark man who died at Ariel-Foundation Park did jump from Rastin Tower, according to the investigation by the Knox County Coroner’s Office.

Coroner Dr. Jennifer Ogle told the News that Ricky D. Snyder Jr., 35, Newark, died of the results of a “jump rather than a fall.”

The cause of death, she said, was “blunt force injuries to the torso and head.”

She added that the toxicology results are pending at this time. Typically, it takes six to eight weeks for toxicology testing to be completed.

Snyder climbed the former Pittsburgh Plate Glass smokestack after crashing a vehicle he had stolen earlier from Sycamore Road. Witnesses saw Snyder “jump” to his death on to a terrace in the park.

No motives have been released by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office as to why Snyder stole the stuck or ultimately took his own life.
