MOUNT VERNON — The most popular question in Knox County these days has finally been answered — Mazza’s Restaurant will officially open Wednesday.

The sons of Mike Mazza Sr. — Travis, Mike Jr. and Tony — have resurrected the family restaurant and have prepared for a triumphant return. The much anticipated opening follows several “soft opening” events where the staff had the opportunity to put their training into play under more controlled situations. The staff, about 50 employees, has been working hard preparing for the opening.

“It’s really gone well,” Tony Mazza told the News. “We’ve been able to practice with our staff and our system, identify tweaks and make it better every day.”

Initially, Mazza’s will be open Monday through Saturday, 5-10 p.m.; and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Guests are encouraged to make a reservation at or by calling 740-397-2076.

“We are anticipating a lot of excitement and it’s really tough to say there is a wait,” Mazza said. “We want to give everyone the best experience. Our goal is to keep the wait time down and provide quality service.”

Mazza said they plan to open the restaurant in “phases” with extended hours including lunch and carry out options available in a few weeks.

“We want to focus on dinner and then introduce lunch —sandwiches, soups and salads. We are offering our banquet room and corporate lunches,” Mazza said.

Mazza’s is located at 11587 Upper Guilchrist Road, Mount Vernon.

An official grand opening is planned for later this month.
