DANVILLE — Spearman Restaurant and Horseshoe Drive-Thru lived up to the billing.

The top two teams in the Holmes Ashland Knox Baseball Little League 12U faced off Thursday at Danville. Neither team gave an inch before Spearman Restaurant of Howard was finally able to edge the Danville boys from Horseshoe, 4-3.

“Very similar game from last time we’ve played them, we found a way to pull through tonight,” said Spearman coach Jimmy Layne.

Spearman’s Gavin Layne started the top of the first with a solid double, and was later batted in by a triple blasted by Cameron Stephens. Later on, Dylan Reed was able to piece together a nice single to score Stephens. It wasn’t long before Walker Weckesser struck out three batters to end the top of the first. Horsehoe Drive-Thru (18-4) was unable to score in the first, resulting in a 2-0 ball game early on.

In the top of the third, a rally took favor in Spearman Restaurant’s way, Stephens was once again able to connect with a ball that sailed deep over the left-center field fence to produce two additional runs for his team. Horseshoe Drive-Thru was shortly able to regroup and turn a big-time double play to end the top of the inning.
