MOUNT VERNON — Standing in a pulpit comes as naturally to Pastor Warren Outhwaite as pulling on his shoes, but when he delivers his sermon June 24 at Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, the experience will be new. Pastor Outhwaite will enter retirement at the end of the month, and he will be sharing God’s word for a final time after 44 years of distinguished service in the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church.
His final 10 years in the ministry have been at Mount Vernon’s Mulberry Street UMC, where a grateful congregation will be saying bittersweet goodbyes not only to a beloved pastor but to a beloved family: Outhwaite’s wife, Betsey, and daughter, Abigail, have been very active in the congregation, from teaching Sunday School to missions work and from singing in the choir to coordinating parish support of Operation Christmas Child.
A special worship service, music and lunch reception are planned for June 24. Services will begin at the special time of 10:30 a.m.

The Outhwaites plan to settle down in Kentucky’s Bluegrass Region, where family will be closer and winters a bit more temperate.
