FREDERICKTOWN — Daytime staffing for the Fredericktown Community Fire District became a reality on a 4-2 vote at the fireboard’s meeting Wednesday night.

The contentious issue passed after FCFD fire boardmember Doug Turpen proposed the staffing be tied to an annual carryover in the FCFD budget of $430,000 per year. If the carryover falls below $430,000, the fire board is to re-evaluate the issue.

The no votes were from Dick Kershner and Alan Albright. Wednesday’s meeting of the fire board was Albright’s first as the new representative from Middlebury Township, replacing Mike Gearhart, who resigned from the fire board last month.

Turpen previously voted no on two attempts to pass daytime staffing. Turpen was unavailable for comment after the meeting.
