MOUNT VERNON — The Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County is keeping pace with the latest trends in social media and electronic information technology. The library recently entered into a partnership with Burbio.com, a free website, iOS and Android app, and Alexa skill that gathers Knox County school, library, government and community events into one location in cyberspace.

With Burbio.com, residents can select calendars to follow, create a personalized event feed, sync events to their Google or Apple calendars and be notified when things change. Burbio is free for residents and free for non-profits to stream their events.

“Civic engagement is a key aspect of the mission of the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County and Burbio’s service is all about making information easier to access for residents, and making it easier for groups throughout our community to use technology to generate awareness about their events,” said Jessica Horlacher of the Library. “Mount Vernon and Knox County is a vibrant community and Burbio.com’s accessible platform — mobile, computer, voice — allows for residents to get information the way they prefer. … The Summer Reading Program for all ages is about to begin. This is the ideal way for people to stay current with all of our summer programs.”

In addition to libraries and schools, local groups with content on Burbio include Main Street Mount Vernon, YMCA of Mount Vernon, Knox County Park District, Brown Family Environmental Center and Ariel Foundation Park, with more being added all the time.
