MOUNT VERNON — For nearly 17 months, the house at 204 E. Sugar St. has sat vacant and boarded up creating an eyesore for the residents living there.

“If people don’t speak out about it, nothing is going to be done about it”

Jessica Camillo

The News reported in early 2017 that the property owned by Phillipe J. Lesage was boarded up Jan. 20, 2017, after Prosecuting Attorney Chip McConville filed a nuisance abatement complaint against the property on the grounds that tenants, Shannon M. Kitts and Raymond L. Williams, had knowledge of, or allowed, drug offenses to occur on the property. Kitts is currently serving a prison sentence of nearly six years for four counts of trafficking in heroin between August 2016 and January 2017, when Kitts sold heroin from the property.

Many of the residents of East Sugar Street said they were happy to see the house boarded up and drug sales and use come to an end, but now are left wondering what and when something will be done with the property.
