MOUNT VERNON — Eugene “Gene” Beckholt, 94, of Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday afternoon, May 26, 2018, at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He was born May 5, 1924, near Gambier to the late George and Minnie Belle (Laymon) Beckholt.

Gene was a member of the Grove Church of Christ near Gambier and attended the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon. He worked for PPG for 30 years and after the plant closure, he went to work for the Mount Vernon Developmental Center for another 12 years. Gene enjoyed the great outdoors which included gardening, lawn care, hunting mushrooms in the spring and hunting raccoon in the fall. He loved to travel to Canada to visit with his family.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Amsbaugh) Beckholt, whom he married June 17, 1956; son, Kenneth (Alice) Beckholt of Columbus; daughters, Barbara (Terry) Carpanese of Wesley Chapel, Florida, and Mary (Gary) Brickell of Bradford, Ontario, Canada; grandchildren, Anthony (Sylvia) Carpanese, Jesse (Jessica) Brickell, John (Nicole) Brickell, Holly (Chris) Muncey and Heidi (Yusiel) Diago; step-grandchildren, Matthew (Cathy) Polakoff, Michael Polakoff and Katherine Polakoff; great-grandchildren, Tabitha, Samuel, Gracen, Isaac, Rebecca Joy, Ana, Abbey, Carter, Hudson, Micah and Finn; a step-great-grandson, Alexander; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by siblings, Arthur, George, Harold, Charles, John, Dorothy, Bessie, Betty, Hazel, Helen and three in infancy.

The family will receive friends from noon until the time of a funeral service at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2018, at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, with Rev. Warren Outhwaite officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery, Fredericktown.
