LANCASTER — Centerburg’s Tyler Boales is a summer-heat type guy.
This track season, with its cold and wet spring, wasn’t too much to his liking. But, Friday at the Division III regional track meet at Fairfield Union, it turned summer-time hot and Boales responded with some of his best work of the season.
The Trojan senior finished second in the 100-meter dash and then turned around and won the 200 to advance to the state meet next week in both events.
“I think, personally, I run a lot better in the heat. It’s just something about it that makes me feel better physically. It’s easier to warm up and helps me stay loose,” Boales said.
Boales ran the 100 in 11.01, his best time of the year, edging out Ready’s Shelrick McElroy for the second spot. He then jogged across the field and ran two straight relays for the Trojans.
